 Post subject: hard drive crashed

or the windows files corrupted or something

cant get computer to boot until i get a new hard drive. gonna get new windows 7 thingy too i guess

back up, with new hard drive, and windows 7

any recommendations on anti-virus software? i never been that happy with norton, seems to slow computer down so much i usually turned it off

Try Microsoft Security Essentials if you are not worried about your computer being actively scanned. If you set it up for a weekly scan it won't slow the computer down.

Symantec has really worked on Norton these past couple of years. The 2009 and 2010 version as far as I know have been the highest rated commercial anti-virus platforms too. I'd say McAfee holds the award now for System Hog.

And now that I am working in IT, if we are going to de-virus a PC, we've learned that it isn't happening if we don't do a Norton scan on the HDD at some point during the fumigation.
